Epstein Bar- Information about an illusive virus

Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) has been noticed since the 1950’s. Once mostly passed on by saliva, EBV has since mutated so many times that we now know that it can be transferred by simply shaking hands. Although this virus has not usually been known to directly kill its victims, many live lives that can hardly be considered living. The symptoms of EBV may differ from patient to patient because there have been so many mutations of the virus. In early stages, we see patients with complete fatigue, achiness, and a feeling of having the flu, without the fever or sore throat. The patient seems to know that “something” is wrong with their body. This stage seems to last for 2-7 years, that is the fatigue part, and then we see the virus attack the liver, not allowing the liver to break down the lipids (fat) properly, therefore the patient will have very high cholesterol and triglycerides, even when the patient is eating a proper diet. We also see the virus attack the heart, in the forms of an enlarged heart muscle system, blockage in arteries seems to increase, with abnormal EKG readings, and/or the beginnings of other major heart disorders proven to be effective in reducing chronic fatigue syndrome.
